Depuis la mort de sa femme Esther, Olaf, éleveur de rennes en Laponie, vit seule avec ses deux filles jumelles de 15 ans, Solveig et Lotta. La première, mutique, vit dans son monde, tandis que la seconde protège sa soeur et parle pour deux. Lotta désire devenir chamane afin d’entrer en relation avec les esprits et retrouver celui de Solveig. Sa formation s’annonce longue et difficile.
